GlaxoSmithKline has allegedly cheated the Medicaid program as well as made false claims regarding several of their drugs. The company has agreed to pay the federal government $3 billion, making it the largest settlement ever between a drug company and the government. U.S. attorneys have been investigating the marketing for nine of their best-selling drugs, including Wellbutrin and Avandia. The multidistrict litigation over Avandia stated that they marketed the drug as completely safe although they knew if could cause heart attacks and strokes. So far, GlaxoSmithKline has paid $700 million to individuals, but there are over 20,000 more claims still to be settled.
